Game Club Project

The Game Club Project (ゲーム部プロジェクト Gemu Bu Purojekuto) was a group of Virtual YouTubers operated by Brave Group that started activity on 6 March 2018. In April 2019, there was a controversy regarding an internal problem between the voice actors portraying the club members and the management, leading to them quitting their roles. They later resumed their activities on 19 April after a discussion among the voice actors and managements, but towards the end of 2019, they were all replaced with a new cast of voice actors.

History and Background

The Game Club Project YouTube channel was created on January 25, 2018, with its first video uploaded on March 6, featuring Kaede Yumesaki introducing herself.

2019

Mistreatment Controversy

On April 5, 2019, the voice actors portraying the Game Club members resigned, accusing the production staff of verbal abuse and mistreatment. The issue quickly gained public attention.

Management initially stayed silent but acknowledged the rumors on April 8. They announced discussions to improve working conditions and voice actor treatment. On April 11, they apologized publicly and established a new department focused on managing voice actors, separate from business operations. They also confirmed plans to continue the Game Club Project.

On April 15, the members announced their return on Twitter and resumed activities on April 19.

Voice Actor Replacements and Backlash

In June 2019, the company replaced Miria’s voice actress, followed by Haruto’s in July. Fans reacted negatively, and the channel lost over 30,000 subscribers in one week. The backlash also impacted other channels under Unlimited Inc., including Cocoa Domyoji and Aogiri High School Game Club, which also lost subscribers.

On July 17, the company apologized for the delayed announcements and revealed plans to replace Kaede and Ryo’s voice actors by September 2019.

2020

On December 31, 2020, Brave Group (formerly Unlimited Inc.) announced that Kaede, Haruto, and Ryo would retire in February 2021.

2021

After a nine-month hiatus, the Game Club held their final group stream on February 7, 2021, marking the retirement of Kaede, Haruto, and Ryo. Following this, Miria continued her activities independently on her own YouTube channel.
